Leeds United have reportedly had an approach for Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino rejected.
That is according to the Evening Standard, who also claim that French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco have too seen their interest turned down by Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are said to have no interest in losing Minamino this month.
Given Minamino’s ability to play both centrally and out wide, it remains to be seen whether Leeds have earmarked him as an alternative to Brenden Aaronson.
The Whites have submitted two separate bids for Aaronson so far but Red Bull Salzburg are reluctant to lose him at this stage of the season due to their upcoming Champions League last-16 tie with Bayern Munich.
Leeds, though, may also be scouring the market for a new winger as rumours over a Crysencio Summerville exit continue to bubble.
Here is how Leeds fans have been reacting to the news.
@Harry_Palmer: “Signed Dan James for 25 mill on deadline day and now trying to sign Minamino on loan at the end of January. Our planning always on point.”
@Radebe_Leeds: “All for the links to players like Minamino but are Liverpool really going to entertain the idea of him coming to Leeds to have to sit on the bench until he’s bought into the system.”
@L33ds_Un1t3d: “But if Minamino is available and an option, he’s better than Summerville.”
@ScottEaglen: “So we sell a winger that can’t get into our squad and replace him with Minamino? Got bigger priorities.”
@hank_lufc: “Minamino plays centrally. This doesn’t make any sense.”
@Hertswhitelufc: “Minamino to replace Summerville? Doesn’t add up.”
@Lucy_LUFC: “Fun fact: I used to watch montage videos all the time of Minamino at Salzburg. I just used to think he was fantastic. I was so excited to watch him in the PL but have been disappointed so far… Nothing a bit of Bielsa magic can’t solve though eh?
@DaveKWilliams: “If Summerville isn’t going to play and we aren’t getting Aaronson in this window, I would be more than up for letting Summerville go on loan and bringing Minamino in on loan. Not the ideal scenario but I think Minamino would improve our survival hopes than CS staying.”
@JamesFromLeeds: “Always been impressed with Minamino when he’s played despite being (understandably) well down the pecking order at Liverpool.”
@andyoldsport: “Minamino would be a huge improvement on Roberts. Come on #lufc get it done.”
