A Missouri man with "no remorse" who admitted to the fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child during an argument will face the rest of his life in prison, according to a report.
On August 1, 2023, Sevance T. Brewer, 33, shot Brittany Toalson in the head during an argument about his gun at her home in Boone County, according to ABC 17 News.
Doorbell camera footage and witness statements implicated Brewer, who later confessed to retrieving the weapon, unholstering it, and firing the fatal shot. Toalson, who had endured years of domestic abuse from Brewer, was four months pregnant at the time of her death.
"He didn't feel nothing. No remorse," Turquoise President, Toalson's cousin, said. "He was a drug addict, period. He didn't care about nothing but drugs and the damn game."
On Friday Brewer was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder as part of a plea deal that dropped additional charges.
He received two concurrent life sentences, equivalent to 30 years each under Missouri law, and must serve 85% of the sentence before parole eligibility.
Toalson's family expressed anger over the plea deal, stating it fell short of justice and highlighting Brewer's lack of remorse during sentencing.
Toalson's two surviving children, who were present during the shooting, remain in the custody of Brewer's mother. Toalson's family is pursuing legal action to gain custody of the children.
