Mission Impossible star Simon Pegg faces his second driving ban in three years after he was caught speeding in one of London’s 20mph zones.
The award-winning actor and writer, 54, served a six-month ban in 2021 after amassing 13 penalty points on his licence for four speeding offences.
At the time, his lawyer told Wimbledon magistrates’ court that Pegg “deeply regrets” the offences and a ban would cause him “difficulties”. The star is back in trouble after admitting a further speeding offence in Hackney on October 24 last year.
He pleaded guilty through the single justice procedure at Lavender Hill magistrates’ court last month, and now faces another potential ban.
Court documents show Pegg was behind the wheel of a Mercedes AMG in Homerton Road in Hackney Wick at 10.54am when it was flashed by a speed camera. The car was going at 36mph in a 20mph zone.
Pegg, the star of films including Shaun of the Dead, was written to by police at his home in Hertfordshire in April, and he confirmed that he was driving at the time of the incident.
He entered a guilty plea in writing with no mitigation, a court official confirmed, and a magistrate heard the case against Pegg in private on May 20.
Sentencing has been adjourned until a hearing on June 24 “to consider disqualification from driving”.
After the 2021 court hearing, Pegg was fined £660 and ordered to pay £85 costs.
