A pair of missing five-month-old twins were allegedly kidnapped from a car after their mother briefly left them alone to collect a take-away pizza. Kassan Thomas and his twin brother, Kyair Thomas from Ohio, US, were last seen in a 2010 Honda Accord vehicle on Monday evening after they were left outside Donatos Pizza's car park in Columbus.
The baby brothers were reported missing at around 9.45pm on December 19 and little Kyair has thankfully since been found. However, Kasson is still missing after three days and cops are now pleading for his return, the Mirror reports.
Cops believe suspect Nalah Tamiko Jackson, 24, who is homeless, was inside the pizzeria, but walked out once the mum came inside. They have also confirmed that they received a report that claimed a car had been stolen with two children inside it outside of the pizzeria.
Columbus Chief of Police Elaine Bryant said officers responded immediately to the shocking call, arriving at the scene in less than seven minutes. She said: "Right now, our concern is to get the baby.
"We want to make sure that Kasson is safe. That is our number one priority.
"Clearly, we are concerned about everything, but we want to make sure that we bring that baby home to their family.” Officers searched previous home addresses of Jackson and three homeless camps within 30 minutes of the call but failed to find either of the twin boys.
A statewide Amber Alert which was issued by Ohio Stateway Highway Petrol at 11.45pm failed to go through and police shockingly revealed that the alert was eventually processed at 1.37am after a third attempt. Chief Bryant revealed “there was a lapse of communication from the executive level” which meant an alert wasn't processed sooner, and confirmed the "lapse" was being looked into further.
Authorities were alerted that one of the missing twins, Kyair, had been found safe and well in the Dayton International Airport car park almost three hours after the Amber Alert was issued. Deputy Chief Smith Weir expressed his worries regarding the second brother at a press conference as he said the fact that Kyair had been left at the airport was concerning.
Police are pleading with Jackson to return Kasson home safely or leave him somewhere unharmed where they can collect him. Mrs Bryant begged: “Please return Kasson Thomass.”
Columbus Police have posted images of Jackson and the stolen Honda Accord which shows her at Huber gas station asking the till assistant for money. According to police, Jackson, who is accused of stealing the vehicle, has been involved in a car accident as the left side of the motor appears to be damaged.
