Missing neurosurgeon discovered dead in Scots loch as devastated family informed

A missing neurosurgeon has been discovered dead in a Scots loch.

Michael Fitzpatrick disappeared from his house in Cumbernauld at around 5pm on Sunday November 13. A frantic search was launched for the 58-year-old, who is believed to have worked as a consultant neurosurgeon in Edinburgh.

He hadn't made contact with family or friends and police appealed for information. Officers have now confirmed Michael's body was found in Banton Loch, Kilsyth, at around 3.35pm on Saturday November 19.

His heartbroken family have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The body of a man was found in Banton Loch, Kilsyth, around 3.35pm on Saturday, November 19.

"The body has been identified as 58-year-old Michael Fitzpatrick, who had been reported missing from Cumbernauld. His family have been informed.

"The death is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
