Missing hiker Hadi Nazari has finally been found alive after spending 13 days in New South Wales’s Kosciuszko National Park.

Nazari was found 13 days later by other hikers off the circuit walk near Blue Lake at about 3.15pm today.

From there, he was airlifted to the command post where he is now receiving medical treatment.

His family have confirmed that he is “ok” and have confirmed that they’ve made contact with him following the incredible news.

“We talked to him… He is ok… He is fine,” the family told 9News.

“We are very happy….It is the happiest day of our lives.”

What happened to Hadi Nazari?

Nazari was last seen on Boxing Day heading down one of the hiking trails of NSW’s Kosciuszko National Park.

Ahead of his hike, the medical student brought along camping gear as he was supposed to link up with some mates for a short camping trip at Geehi Campground. But alarm bells rang when he never showed up.

It is believed that Nazari took photos on the trail, but went missing in the national park shortly after.

Shortly after Nazari’s disappearance was reported, a search party was deployed. On Sunday, January 5, they located a campsite that included a camera, a camera bag and a lighter.

Before this discovery, a separate search party found a hiker pole and rubbish on December 31, 2024, which were believed to belong to Nazari.

Josh Broadfoot, the Riverina Police District Inspector, described the news as “an incredible outcome” and thanked all of those involved in their search for Nazari.

“This is an incredible outcome, after 13 long days he has been located. We want to thank our emergency services partner agencies, volunteers and members of the public for their assistance,” Broadfoot said.

“We never gave up hope of finding him, and we are elated we can return him safely to his family.”

More than 300 people were involved in the search for Nazari, including NSW Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and Riverina Police District officers, the SES, National Parks and Wildlife Service, NSW Ambulance, RFS, VRA Rescue NSW, PolAir and Westpac Lifesaver.
