The statement said: “On January 16, 2022, Monongalia County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a missing male. Bryn Hargreaves is 36 years of age, originally from England and resides in the Cheat Lake area of Morgantown, WV.

"He was last seen approximately two weeks ago. He is described as a white male with brown hair, 6’2”, 220 pounds and has a tattoo of a family crest on his right arm.

Luke Mawson, media manager at Bradford Bulls, told LancsLive the club was hoping for a positive outcome, and praised the popular' player who worked 'incredibly hard' for them.

He said: “We are waiting for some good news to come through. We have shared this on our social media channel to try to increase the awareness of it.

“We hope he is found safe and well – fingers crossed we get some good news.

“He did many positive things for us; we are thinking about him and his family at this moment in time.

“He worked incredibly hard as part of his job – and put his body on the line and did so for this club, like everybody who plays for us. He was hard working, popular, and all of his former teammates across the word are thinking of him and hoping for a positive outcome now.”

Ex teammate Paul Sculthorpe said on Twitter: "please RT. He's a good fella Bryn....hopefully he is found safe and well."

A spokesperson for St. Helens RFC said: “Everyone at the club is shocked and saddened to hear the news that Bryn has been reported missing.

We have shared our support for him across social media and we urge anyone who knows anything to get in touch with the authorities. Bryn was a well-respected member of our squad when he played here and our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time.”

A former pupil of Balshaw’s Church of England High School, Leyland, Mr Hargreaves attended Runshaw College in Leyland between 2002 and 2004.

Mr Hargreaves played professionally for Wigan Warriors, from 2001 to 2004, before joining St Helens RFC from November 2005 until 2009.

In 2008, he was the starting prop during the Challenge Cup win against Hull FC at Wembley, and joined Bradford Bulls in 2009.

Retiring in 2012 from his career in rugby league, Mr Hargreaves subsequently emigrated to the USA.
