Missiles thrown at Antonio Rudiger in Tottenham clash as Chelsea player becomes latest victim of fan disorder

Antonio Rudiger appeared to have missiles thrown at him from the crowd during Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Tottenham.

The Germany defender raised the issue with officials during the game – but Thomas Tuchel did not realise the incident had taken place until it was reported to him after the final whistle.

A lighter appeared to be among the objects thrown in the direction of Rudiger in scenes that mirrored events at Goodison on Saturday when missiles were thrown at Aston Villa’s Matty Cash and Lucas Digne during their 1-0 win against Everton.

Tuchel said: “I just heard about this some minutes ago. I was not aware of this during the match.

“I thought there was something going on against his direct opponent. It was during a corner or a free kick I think.”

Tuchel, who this weekend sent a plea to fans not to invade the pitch, said football needs to work together to drive out the worrying trend.

While he insisted he was not concerned about his own safety, he said: “I sent a message to our fans and supporters that we love to have them close to the pitch. We love that it is a brilliant atmosphere, that they are not behind fences, behind nets, whatever.

“From there everybody needs to show respect and behave and follow guidelines.

“In general, I am not concerned because right now I enjoy the atmosphere, also in away stadiums, it is brilliant and if this is a new trend we should act together so it stops as soon as possible to protect the environment of this game and the atmosphere because it is absolutely unique here in England.”
