Since the globally-condemned invasion of Ukraine last week by Russia, it would be a challenge to scroll through social media without coming across heartfelt messages of support dedicated to the residents caught up in the crisis. From the changing of profile pictures to Ukraine's flag, to sharing information to increase awareness, a lot of people are standing in solidarity with Ukrainians at the moment.
Although some celebrities have had questionable responses to the ongoing conflict, others have set an example by using their platform and status to educate their followers on the issue. Many have been vocal about the issue, while some have donated money and encouraged their followers and friends to do the same.
One famous face in particular has even decided to join the Ukrainian army. Here are nine celebrities who have shown support to Ukraine since the invasion.

Angelina Jolie
Last week, Maleficent star Angelina Jolie shared her thoughts on the invasion. The 46-year-old has been Special Envoy to the United Nations since 2012, and is an influential advocate on refugee and displacement matters.
Taking to Instagram, she said: "Like many of you, I'm praying for the people in Ukraine. My focus along with my UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) colleagues is that everything possible is done to ensure the protection and basic human rights of those displaced, and refugees in the region.
"We have already seen reports of casualties and people starting to flee their homes to seek safety. It is too soon to know what will happen, but the significance of this moment - for the people of Ukraine, and for the international rule of law - cannot be overstated."
On Friday (February 25), Angelina shared a video of one of her UNHCR colleagues at the border between Moldova and Ukraine. The actress informed fans that more than 50,000 people had fled Ukraine in the 48 hours leading up to then.
Anastasiia Lenna
Former Miss Ukraine title holder Anastasiia Lenna has taken up arms in the fight against Russia, and has issued a stark warning to Russians planning on entering Ukraine. Last week, Anastasiia posted an image of her holding an assault rifle with the caption '#standwithukraine #handsoffukraine'.
On Saturday, she posted a photograph on her story of troops lined across a road, and said: "Everyone who crosses the Ukrainian border with the intent to invade will be killed!"
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
Celebrity couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have made a promise on social media to match every donation up to $1 million for refugees fleeing Ukraine.
Posting on Twitter, Deadpool star Ryan said: "In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighboring countries. They need protection. When you donate, we'll match it up to $1,000,000, creating double the support."
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Now that they are no longer working members of the Royal Family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have issued a statement regarding the unfolding of events in Ukraine.
Condemning the invasion, the statement says: "Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same."
Archewell is a non-profit organisation set up by Harry and Meghan in 2020. According to its website, the organisation "Unleashes the power of compassion to drive systemic cultural change".
Shannen Doherty
Those who grew up in the 1990s may remember actress Shannen Doherty from her role as Brenda in 90210. A few days ago, Shannen took to Instagram to share a message of support for those in Ukraine, whilst also criticising influencers.
Under an image of war-torn Ukraine, Shannen said: "This is happening now. Pay attention. Speak up.
"I can't believe celebrities and influencers are posting about their latest success or newest bag when children, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters are being killed. While I realise that there is a limit to what social media can accomplish, I also think it can do much more than simply being a self serving platform. Ukraine I am praying for you Ukraine."
Annie Lennox
Scottish singer Annie Lennox has been asking some serious questions regarding the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. In her initial Instagram post about the conflict, Annie typed a lengthy caption, which she branded a 'dark reflection'.
In a second post, Annie called on her followers and friends to donate to The Red Cross. She said: "Dear friends… Like so many people I feel shocked and devastated by the events in Ukraine. Perhaps, like me, you are wondering what you can do..
"The Red Cross is a FANTASTIC organisation, with years of experience in these emergency situations, I would absolutely recommend any donation you can offer them.. no matter how small or large. I’ve also just discovered @rescueorg who do brilliant work with refugees..Take a minute to check them out.
"It really hurts to think of families being displaced and having to flee with only rucksacks on their backs. It is monstrous and barbaric that entire populations of ordinary people are being violated in this way. The best we can do is to at least donate to organisations who can mobilise and support."
The Weeknd
Canadian singer The Weeknd was planning on making a big announcement on Thursday, February 24. However, the Blinding Lights singer changed his mind in light of the escalating crisis in Ukraine, Tweeting: "unfortunately i’m just now seeing what’s happening with the conflict and will pause on tomorrow’s announcement. i pray for everyone’s safety."
