Miss Nigeria praised for joyous reaction to Jamaica's Toni-Ann Singh winning Miss World

Miss Nigeria's exuberant reaction to her Jamaican counterpart winning Miss World has been widely praised as a touching reminder of how friends should support each other.

Nyekachi Douglas screamed with excitement and danced across the stage as the winner, Miss Jamaica, was announced.

She then hugged the victor, Toni-Ann Singh, as she beamed with glee and congratulated her on the triumph.

Ms Douglas told the Jamaica Observer: “Everyone else but her knew that she was gonna take this. All the other girls there were like, girl you got this.

"Then, when we got on stage and they called her I went like 'See, I told you'. I was so happy for her."

Miss Douglas' reaction won plaudits on social media, as one wrote: "May the new decade greet us with friends like Miss Nigeria."

"Everyone needs a friend like Miss Nigeria," added another.

Ms Singh became the 69th Miss World.

After her victory, she said: “So honoured and grateful for this opportunity but most of all I’m thinking about the work that needs to be done and that I have the platform and the means to do it.

"I’m ready to get out there and work. I’m excited!”
