Miriam Margolyes has said it’s “pathetic” that she hasn’t tackled her weight issues and insists she’ll end up in a wheelchair as a result.
The 82-year-old actress said that rather than focusing on her health she was bingeing on cheesecakes and fudge.
“The one thing I have not conquered and should have conquered is my weight,” said Margolyes, whose weight issues led to her spinal stenosis – which occurs when the space around the spinal cord becomes too narrow.
“I am a blubber mass... I am fat. And to be fat and 82 is truly pathetic.”
Margolyes, who was speaking on the How To Fail podcast, admitted that she told another overweight woman her age “don’t be fat.”
“It’s such a defeat," she continued. "A cream bun, a chocolate, a helping of chopped liver is more important than your health and aesthetic presentation?
“No it isn’t more important, it’s just greed, lack of discipline, all the things I’m embarrassed by in myself. It is a major failure and because of that I’ve got spinal stenosis, I can’t walk, I’m going to be in a wheelchair before I’m much older.”
The outspoken entertainer, who previously appeared in a BBC series about her weight struggles, added: “I’ve limited my life because of my longing for fudge or chopped liver, cheesecake.
All these absurdities, I shouldn’t have been so greedy... I f**k everything up by greed and I think it’s shameful... It wasn’t joy, it was laziness, it was greed – and I regret it.
“I would like to be better looking, I would like to have a flatter tummy, and a stronger back and longer legs. But f**k it, here I am.”
Despite this, Margolyes, who recently revealed that she’s set to undergo heart surgery, became a cover girl and posed topless for fashion bible Vogue in June.
Speaking about the experience, which saw her looking glamorous in the cover snap, she said that she was stunned to get the offer and only agreed to pose nude when they promised they wouldn’t show her “horribly fat and ugly” stomach.
“It took 20 people to make me look like that,” she laughed.
