Miriam Margolyes rushed to hospital due to sudden illness

Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes has been hospitalised with a chest infection.

The 81-year-old icon is having to stay in the hospital longer than she expected, as she told her fans that she "can't come home yet".

Miriam shared a snap of herself from her hospital bed and she gave a health update.

She also went on to thank her "precious friends" who thought of her on "TAVI DAY", which stands for transcatheter aortic valve implantation.

In her Facebook post, she wrote: "‘I did survive and am still in The Royal Brompton Hospital certainly till Sunday. I am growing energy but it’s still not quite me. I am putting this so you know how grateful I am for lovely messages.

Miriam said that she will "slowly’" be getting back to her various projects, including embarking on a book tour, before finishing off her post by saying "loving hugs."

She went on to explain her hospital stay after being sent so many well wishes.

She said: "Heartfelt thanks to all my wonderful friends who sent messages and to the very fine doctors and nurses at the RBHT who put up with me and put a TAVI in the LAVVY. HUGS. MM."

However, shortly after she gave another update, she wrote: "‘I spoke too soon. Can’t come home yet: I have a chest infection. Probably tomorrow. But at least I’m resting. Love to all. Thank you for your lovely messages."

Fans continued to send their support.

One wrote: "Thanks for the update, glad you are getting time to rest even if you are being made to do it. much love rest well and then onward."

Another added: "Sending lots of nursing healing blessings your way!!," whilst a third commented: "Sorry for the delay in going home. You will bounce back. Wishing you a speedy recovery."
