Miriam Margolyes' most controversial moments from swearing to eye-watering cheeky stories

Miriam Margolyes is best known for her acting career as well as being controversial in the celebrity world.

The star isn't afraid to speak her mind and is certainly an open book.

The 81-year-old often makes the headlines for her funny TV moments but she has also come under fire for past comments she has made.

However, she still continues to be herself and not hold herself back when it comes to media appearances.

Her iconic moments range from swearing live on air to labelling an A-list celeb actor as 'smelly'.

Here are some of Miriam's most controversial media moments:

Miriam has had multiple controversial moments (BBC)

Swearing live on radio -

Most recently, Miriam added to her bank of famous moments when she swore live on Radio 4.

She appeared on Radio 4’s Today programme on Saturday morning and told listeners she had just bumped into the former health secretary in the BBC corridors after his own interview.

Shocking listeners, Miriam swore as she spoke about Jeremy Hunt.

She said: “When I saw him there I just said you've get a hell of a job, the best of luck.

"What I really wanted to say, was f*** you, you b******. But you can't say that."

The presenters apologised afterwards and quickly introduced the sports news.

However, it seems that those listening to the show found the situation amusing.

TV presenter Anneka Rice said: "A joy to start the day to Miriam Margolyes saying 'F*** you' on Radio 4. I love her reliability!"

Fern Britton added: "God bless #MiriamMargolyes on @BBCr4today. Her poetic and fulsome thoughts on #RobbieColtrane and slightly pithier ones on #JeremyHunt. Gods bless freedom of speech."

Naughty Graham Norton show appearance -

Miriam has appeared on Graham Norton multiple times and more often than not she ends up telling a funny story.

One time in particular she spoke about how she used to collect celebrity autographs when she went to the theatre.

The actress reminisced about the time that she came face to face with Lawrence Olivier.

She started her story by saying: "I used to collect autographs at the stage door."

Miriam then began to get more graphic by describing how she became sexually aroused when she set her eyes on the English actor and director.

Despite shocking fellow guests on the show, the audience erupted into a roar of laughter after hearing the unexpected story.

Labelling an A-list actor as 'smelly' -

During an appearance on ITV's This Morning, Miriam branded Leonardo DiCaprio 'smelly' and claimed that boys 'don't wash'.

The star began talking about working alongside the American actor.

She worked with him in Baz Luhrmann's 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo.

Miriam said: "He was a bit smelly because it was very hot in Mexico and young boys don't make themselves fragrant, they don't wash all the bits."

Boris Johnson death wish -

Miriam sparked more than 240 complaints when she said she wanted former Prime Minister Boris Johnson to 'die' from coronavirus.

Appearing on Channel 4 show The Last Leg, she talked about how she thought the Government had handles the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: "Appallingly, of course, appallingly. It's a disgrace, it's a scandal. It's a public scandal."

Miriam added: "I had difficulty not wanting Boris Johnson to die. I wanted him to die. Then I thought that will reflect badly on me and I don't want to be the sort of person that wants people to die.

"So then I wanted him to get better, which he did do, he did get better.

"But he didn't get better as a human being. And I really would prefer that."

Sexual awakening -

During another funny appearance on Graham Norton, Miriam talked about a sexual encounter with a man before she came out as gay.

The star began her story by saying she was riding her bike and stopped at a traffic light when she saw an American soldier in a car.

She described 'something crazy' taking over her and she said she shouted across to him to ask if he wanted her to perform a sexual act on him.

Miriam rounded off the story by saying she thought she was being a 'good girl' as a 'bad girl would have had intercourse'.
