Comedian and actor Miranda Hart has taken to social media to quash rumours that her sitcom, Miranda, is returning to our screens with a fourth series. The 49-year-old, whose self-titled sitcom ran for six years on the BBC, has said there is "nothing planned" for the comedy show's revival.
Across the last two days, there have been several reports claiming that after seven years away from our screens, Miranda Hart had finished writing the fourth instalment of her hit sitcom where she stars as a 30-something-year-old women who finds herself in awkward situations. The series starred Patricia Hodge as her on-screen mother, Tom Ellis as Gary, Sarah Hadland as her best mate Stevie and Sally Phillips as Tilly.
The series started on BBC Two back in 2009 and after a switch to BBC One, the final episode of the three series sitcom aired on New Year's Day in 2015 and saw guest appearances from Gary Barlow, Liza Tarbuck and Heather Small. Since the finale, which saw Miranda finally find her happy ever after and marry restaurant chef, Gary after years of a will they or won't they friendship, fans have been eager for the show to make a return.
But taking to her social media, Miranda Hart rubbished the rumours posting: "It's so lovely when some people get excited there might be more Miranda. Means a lot. But I'm afraid what was in papers today didn't come from me. Nothing planned at this time". She added on Twitter: "And yes Twitter I look forward to all the “thank God for that” etc ! This just for the few that were excited. No need to tell me that you’re relieved".
Her followers were quick to share their disappointment, tweeting that they were "gutted" the news wasn't true. Karl Clemmy replied: "Gutted it's not true, but whatever you do is good with me, would've been nice to see what's happened since the series finished, but if I'm ever down, it's a go to, too make me laugh, so thanks for that Miranda x, such fun" and Laura tweeted in response: "I didn’t think there would be more Miranda but I’m still gutted this isn’t true".
"I knew not to get my hopes up before you confirmed it yourself," Lucy tweeted: "I still hope one day we get to see what ‘Miranda’ and the gang have been up to" and Dean Leake added: "Aww Miranda, there’s so many of us that are big fans and would love to see the show return one day! Thank you for creating your series, it has genuinely got me through a lot and provided a lot of laughter and joy over the years".
Liam added: "Noooooo we so need you to come back!!!!! I miss it so much! Just finished watching the whole series again for the million time" and Lorri Boxall responded: "Was so excited to hear there was going to be more Miranda. Gutted its not true. Hope to see you on tv in something again soon. We all need Miranda".
