Passenger Recounts Terrifying Ordeal as Plane Door Blows Off Mid-Flight
In a heart-stopping incident that could have ended in tragedy, a flight belonging to Alaska Airlines had a terrifying encounter over the weekend when one of its doors unexpectedly blew off mid-flight. Vicky Kreps, a passenger seated in row 19 on the left side of the aircraft, gave a harrowing account of the incident. Recalling the moments leading up to the incident, Kreps mentioned hearing a hissing sound, which she initially mistook for luggage shifting. However, looking back, she now believes it was likely the sound of a leak. Before she could fully comprehend what was happening, she heard a tremendous boom and felt a strong forward jolt as the door came off, followed by a rush of wind hitting her face and pushing her back into her seat.
Fortunately, the quick-thinking crew immediately initiated the deployment of oxygen masks, ensuring the safety of all passengers. Kreps, who was traveling with her two young grandchildren, managed to assist them in securing their masks and also put on her own without any delay. She expressed her gratitude towards the crew for their swift response.
When asked about her thoughts during the distressing ordeal, Kreps admitted to saying a prayer with her grandchildren, finding solace in her faith. She acknowledged that in the back of her mind, she questioned the worst possible outcome, but by the time the oxygen masks were in use, she believed the most immediate danger had likely passed.
In response to whether she plans to pursue legal action, Kreps stated that she had not yet contacted an attorney. She commended Alaska Airlines for their outstanding support, expressing her gratitude for their constant check-ins and assurance. While she acknowledged compensations were being provided, she did not indicate any intention of pursuing additional claims.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of air travel. Fortunately, the quick and effective response from the crew, along with the cooperation of passengers, prevented any severe injuries or casualties.
