Miracle Lanarkshire baby is back home after contracting Covid-19

An Airdrie mum gave birth to twins girls nine weeks early at home.

Brave Chloe Connolly, 25, successfully delivered Esmae and Averly herself, with her partner Darren McGuinness at her side, before the babies were taken to University Hospital Wishaw.

Mum-of-four Chloe had felt sudden pains and rang for an ambulance straight away, but the tiny tots were born before paramedics could get there.

However, while in hospital baby Averly, who was born with chronic lung disease, contracted Covid-19 and was rushed to Glasgow's Royal Children's Hospital, where she was put into a coma and connected to a ventilator.

Chloe feared that her baby girl would not survive the ordeal and began making funeral arrangements, but brave little Averly miraculously pulled through and was later reunited with her sister Esmae in the Wishaw neonatal unit.

The incredible tiny twins, who are now aged seven months, both suffer from chronic lung disease, but it is hoped that they will outgrow it.

Chloe said: "When she came back to the neonatal unit, the staff were all shocked to see her.

"I don't know how she did it. She was so tiny and just had the strength to pull through.

"The doctors and nurses were brilliant and everyone we came across has been so supportive."
