Mira Sorvino has paid tribute to "the most wonderful father" Paul Sorvino following his death at the age of 83.
The actor, best known for starring in Goodfellas, died on Monday morning, his wife Dee Dee confirmed. She is believed to have been by his side when he died of natural causes.
He starred in nearly 50 films in his five-decade long acting career but is famed for his role as mobster Paul Cicero in Martin Scorcese's 1990 masterpiece Goodfellas.
Paul leaves behind his three children - Mira, Michael and Amanda - and wife Dee Dee.
Mira, who won an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite, wrote an emotional message on Twitter, it read: "My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed.
"My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over.
"He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend."
Dee Dee also paid tribute by sharing a photo of herself and Paul on Instagram, writing: "I am completely devastated.
"The love of my life & the most wonderful man who has ever lived is gone. I am heartbroken"
Academy Award winner Forest Whittaker, who appeared alongside Sorvino in Godfather of Harlem between 2019 and 2021, wrote on social media: " It was very special to get to sit quietly with the great Paul Sorvino, talking through the games of life.
"I’m sending much comfort and love to his family, and wish them all eternal blessings, love, and light."
Godfather of Harlem's official Instagram account also paid tribute, writing: "Rest in peace to Paul Sorvino. The only one that could do you is you."
Other notable work from Paul were Baz Luhrmann's 1996 hit Romeo + Juliet as Fulgencio Capulet and Henry Kissinger in 1995's Nixon.
In 1991, he joined popular TV show Law & Order as Sergeant Phil Cerreta, but left after 29 episodes after struggling with the exhausting filming schedule.
Sorvino's death comes just two months after his former Goodfellas co-star Ray Liotta died aged 67.
He died in the Dominican Republic, where he was shooting the film, Dangerous Waters.
