A Muslim community leader in Minnesota, Asad Zaman, recently addressed his connection with Governor Tim Walz in response to questions raised about their association. Zaman stated that he does not have a personal relationship with Governor Walz, clarifying any misconceptions that may have arisen.

Zaman, who is an imam and the executive director of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, explained his past social media activity where he shared content that was later identified as antisemitic. He attributed this to a habit of occasionally passing along social media items without thoroughly reviewing them. Zaman emphasized that his intentions are rooted in supporting justice, equality, and well-being for all individuals, regardless of their religious beliefs.

Regarding his stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict and the Harris-Walz campaign's position on the issue, Zaman mentioned that he was not familiar with the campaign's specific views. However, he expressed solidarity with those affected by the ongoing conflict, acknowledging the significant human suffering experienced by individuals in the region.

Zaman's statements come in the midst of public scrutiny over his social media behavior and his perceived relationship with Governor Walz. By addressing these concerns directly, Zaman aims to provide clarity on his beliefs and values, emphasizing his commitment to promoting peace and understanding among diverse communities.
