Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and his team are gearing up for the upcoming vice presidential debate against Ohio Sen. JD Vance. They have established a 'debate camp' in Harbor Springs, Michigan, a picturesque waterfront resort town located about a four-hour drive from Detroit. The governor is expected to stay at the camp until the day of the debate, with a brief break for a campaign event in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he plans to attend a University of Michigan Wolverines football game.
According to sources, the debate prep sessions for Gov. Walz have been relatively informal so far, with mock debates yet to commence. However, full rehearsals are slated to begin over the weekend, with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stepping in to portray Sen. Vance. Buttigieg has been actively involved in both in-person and virtual debate sessions and will also join the team in Harbor Springs.
Leading the debate preparations for Gov. Walz are former White House official Rob Friedlander and Zayn Siddique, a lawyer at the law firm Paul, Weiss. Siddique, who was also involved in Vice President Kamala Harris' debate prep, brings valuable experience to the team.
The campaign has chosen not to comment on the specifics of the debate preparations at this time. However, it is evident that Gov. Walz and his team are diligently working to ensure he is well-prepared for the upcoming vice presidential debate.
