The brand new Minecraft spinoff Minecraft Legends launches today on Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox players, alongside its multiplatform launch.
Minecraft Legends – the latest spinoff of Mojang's unknown indie hit Minecraft – releases today and is free as a part of the Xbox Game Pass April 2023 games lineup. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can enjoy this strategy-focused title free of charge on Xbox, PC, and cloud, with the game also releasing on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The title has received decent reviews so far, sitting at a 73 on Opencritic.
Minecraft Legends places you in the shoes of 'a great hero' as they must stop an invasion from the monstrous piglins, who have left the Nether and launched a full-scale invasion of the Overworld. You'll team up with former enemies like Creepers and Skeletons to command an army and put a stop to the invaders while also being sure to mine and craft along the way, of course.
Here's when Minecraft Legends releases on Xbox Game Pass, and all other platforms, today.
Minecraft Legends Xbox Game Pass release time
Minecraft Legends will be available on Xbox Game Pass today at 5pm BST / 12pm EDT / 9am PDT, according to the Xbox Game Pass app on PC. Players have the option to pre-install the title right now so that it's ready to go as soon as the launch time arrives. For players who have pre-ordered the game on a PlayStation platform or on Steam, the store pages for the game say it will launch at the same time. Currently, there isn't a time given on the Nintendo Switch eShop, but it's safe to assume that the same time will apply there too.
The game is co-developed by Blackbird Interactive, which is a team founded by former members of Relic Entertainment, who are Real-Time Strategy royalty, creating some of the genre's best titles like the Homeworld series, as well as the Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series. Safe to say, Minecraft Legends is in good hands with Blackbird Interactive on board.
As Minecraft Legends is a first-party title from Xbox Game Studios, it will likely be available for free on Xbox Game Pass for the foreseeable future, alongside the original Minecraft, and the Diablo-esque Minecraft Dungeons. For a game that's as inherently creative as Minecraft, it's cool to see the world being given all of these unique spins, even if none of them are as cool as the Steve DLC in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
