The Xbox and Bethesda showcase is in full swing, and devs are taking centre stage to tell us all about their upcoming titles, including Mojang who revealed the Minecraft Legends release date.
The Xbox and Bethesda showcase 2023 is tearing through the slate of upcoming games we'll see released on Xbox Game Pass and PC this year. Minecraft Legends is one of them, and Mojang took to the stage to show off some more of Minecraft Legends.
We got a fairly comprehensive walkthrough of the roles players can take when they dive into action, as well as the release date which is set for April 18, 2023. Minecraft Legends has also been confirmed as a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, which is to be expected given that Microsoft owns Mojang. Cross-platform play has been confirmed as well as online matchmaking.
Minecraft legends offers up a couple of different flavours of gameplay, with the co-op campaign and PvP multiplayer. The Piglins are the villains of the campaign, and you can team up with friends and mobs to defeat them. They're also causing havoc in PvP, with hordes of them setting out to destroy both you and the opposing team. The PvP map is a procedurally generated world, just like in Minecraft; so the experience will be different each time you drop in.
Role of a lifetime
The Minecraft Legends gameplay trailer posted after the Develop Direct gives a look at all the goings-on in action, but the showcase itself was a delved more into the facets of the game and how it will appeal to regular Minecraft players.
We got a ton of details on PvP, which sees players sharing their army and resources with their team, so you'll have to learn to share and cooperate if you want to succeed. Everyone falling into – or being assigned roles – is another useful strategy; you'll need foragers, builders, warriors – shoring up your defences is a must. Basically, there's 'something for everyone' whether that's beavering away on an impenetrable base, gathering supplies, collecting mounts, or all out Piglin warfare.
The base-building is definitely going to appeal to OG Minecraft fans as well as action-strategy fans. It's going to get pretty hectic as you race against your opponents to breach their walls and destroy them.
Minecraft Legends is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch on April 18, 2023.
