Minecraft will let you play as a Jedi in training as part of an official Star Wars content update next month.
The bestselling video game of all time will meet one of the biggest-ever movie franchises in a galaxy-trotting crossover adventure. Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi will introduce new missions, iconic characters and weapons in the game’s signature blocky style.
While Minecraft previously released a DLC pack with content from the beloved original Star Wars trilogy and The Mandalorian series, the new expansion appears to focus on the divisive prequel movies. Specifically, it sounds like it is set during the Clone Wars: a series of conflicts that were depicted in Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and several animated spinoffs.
What does the Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC include?
Players will graduate from padawans to Jedi Knights in a new story-based adventure set in the Star Wars universe.
You’ll be able to customise your own droid, build a lightsaber, and go on missions to famous locations including Coruscant and Kamino. This being Minecraft, however, the planets are cube-shaped instead of spherical - a fun little design flourish that should make even the most cynical players crack a smile.
Best of all, you’ll meet a bunch of familiar faces along the way, including Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, General Grievous, and Ahsoka, who recently starred in her very own Disney Plus series.
When is Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC released?
Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi will arrive on November 7. You’ll need to download the DLC from the in-game store, known as the Minecraft Marketplace.
As such, it will only be available on Minecraft: Bedrock edition, which is the version you already own if you play on consoles, mobile or Chromebook. There’s no word on how much the new DLC will cost.
This isn’t the first time Star Wars has leapt into the world of gaming. Aside from the countless video games directly based on the franchise, characters and items from the films have also appeared in Fortnite.
A series of games based on the Lego Star Wars sets also sprung to life in 2005, followed by an Angry Birds spinoff in 2012. And next year is set to see the launch of the franchise’s first open world game in the guise of Star Wars: Outlaws.
