Mindy Kaling's bathroom uses a tiled accent wall as a focal point – it's right on trend for 2025

Bathroom tile selection is crucial in determining a space's look and feel; from color to finish, a tile can contribute heavily to the style and ambiance.

We're getting some inspiration from Mindy Kaling's bathroom tile idea. Rather than place tiles on the floor, she has opted for a statement, accent wall next to her white, clawfoot tub. The tiles in question are a gorgeous, calming blue hue, delightfully contrasting the crisp white tub.

As we continue to see the tile drenching trend appear everywhere from the kitchen to the living room, we are taking cues from Mindy and considering how we can style a bathroom with a tiled accent wall.

According to experts, using tiles is a great way to tap into the larger trend of introducing natural materials in the home.

Mike Whitfield, interiors expert at LUSSO explains, 'Using different natural materials in a bathroom is highly desirable due to the interplay of different textures. Combining materials such as wood and stone creates a rich, layered aesthetic that exudes classic luxury.'

He continues, 'Contrasting textures brings depth and character to a space, preventing it from feeling flat or one dimensional. A combination of materials in a bathroom such as a matte white stone bath against a wall of travertine tiles can ensure a bathroom has interest, and character that feels inviting.'

Mindy's bathroom is right in line with Mike's advice, juxtaposing a colorful tile against a matte white bath. The contrasting colors combined with the mixed materials make for a visually pleasing blend, one which can set the color palette for the space.

'Beyond aesthetics, blending multiple natural elements enhances the sensory experience of a bathroom, especially when different elements are finished differently,' Mike states. 'Combining polished and matte finishes, for example, helps to add contrasting tones and textures, and can allow a particular item or area of the room to stand out, with the two finishes combining to create a soft, understated appearance.'

Tiling a wall is also a great alternative to paint, adding a layer of texture to the bathroom. Take it one step further by experimenting with unexpected grout colors, which can coordinate with other accessories in the room.

Tiled accent walls are fantastic ways to infuse a bathroom with both color and texture, all the while tapping into an enduring trend for 2025.
