"Mind blown!" Man City defender Manuel Akanji shows off his incredible maths skills

Manuel Akanji has revealed how he became so good at mathematics as the Manchester City defender opened up on his start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

The Swiss defender has been showing off his maths skills with Akanji impressive at calculations and quick thinking when the pressure is on. It is a skill that he is proud of, and he has been demonstrating that ability in an interview as the centre-back was able to answer complex maths questions rather easily.

It sums up Akanji's impressive start at City, with the centre-back slotting into the side rather comfortably as question marks were raised upon his arrival from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day. Aside from missing the 3-0 win at Wolves due to the birth of his second child, Akanji has played in every game that he was available for since signing, before being benched against Copenhagen in midweek.

In the build-up to City's game against Southampton, Akanji has been performing some impressive maths skills. He was asked multiplications that are relevant to City, with 23 x 42 his first task. This is the amount of major trophies City have won and the number of Switzerland caps Akanji has won for his nation.

He answered that question within a second and it's a remarkable skill, with Akanji able to also speak in a number of languages.

Speaking about how he became so good at it, Akanji told Sky Sports : "My teacher I had would always come up with competitions, calculating, and from that point, I knew I was really good at it and won every time."

Fans have been reacting to the video on Sky Sports, and one was mind-blown by the maths skills. One person tweeted: "I don't think people realise how cool this is. MIND = BLOWN."

Another added: "This guy is that good. He should be thinking about that post retirement."

A shocked fan said: "The real robot. He’s too good at it." One continued: "Remember when your teachers say you won't have a calculator in real life, well, this proves it haha."

Another question Akanji was asked is the year Alf Inge Haaland made his senior debut (89), times the amount of clubs he played for (5). The answer was subsequently 445, which is the number of minutes it took Erling Haaland to score 10 Premier League goals.

When asked about Haaland, who has scored 19 goals in 12 matches for City so far, Akanji said : "It is hard to predict what someone is going to do when they are going to a new club because you never know what is going to happen.

"But I am not surprised with what he is doing right now. I do think he is doing it at a higher level to what he was doing at Dortmund, but it is also to do with the team and the players that he has around him, the passes he gets.

"Also, his finishing, his runs from deep, his headers, he has improved a lot already. If he keeps on doing that, he will score more and more goals."
