Milton’s winds have intensified since Tuesday morning and are expected to further increase as the storm approaches landfall in Florida on Wednesday night.
The tropical storm-force winds of Milton are now extending up to 125 miles from its center, marking a 20-mile expansion in the past 24 hours. As the storm nears land, these winds are projected to widen to about 210 miles from the center, encompassing Florida’s Space Coast while the storm's center moves along the state’s west coast.
Following landfall, Milton is anticipated to weaken but its wind field will expand once more, potentially reaching a span of 280 miles from the center. This broad wind coverage poses a significant threat to Florida’s power infrastructure, raising concerns about widespread damage and potential power outages across the state.
