Milngavie residents told to close windows due to bowling club blaze

Police are telling people living in Milngavie to keep their windows closed due to plumes of smoke billowing from the Claremont Bowling Club which caught fire earlier this morning.

Firefighters are currently still trying to tame the flames hours after initial reports were made at around 7am this morning. Water from the nearby river was used by the appliances on the scene to fight the inferno.

Emergency services are asking those living in the Ellangown Road direction to make sure both their windows and doors stay shut to block any smoke from making its way into the home.

No one was injured during the incident, however, the cause of the blaze remains unclear.

A Police spokesperson said: "Police in Milngavie are working with our partners in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of a fire at Claremont Bowling Club, on Claremont Drive.

"The fire was reported around 7am on Friday, 25 November, 2022. There have been no injuries reported and enquiries to establish the cause of the fire will be carried out.

"At this time, local residents are asked to ensure all windows and doors remain shut, due to smoke in the atmosphere, particularly in the direction of Ellangown Road."
