Some Virgin Media users across the UK will soon find they are treated to much faster broadband. The massive boost is being dished out from next week and will finally offer far better upload speeds. That will make sending files, uploading videos and whizzing photos to friends and family much, much quicker.
The best part about this change is that it's totally free with customers getting the upgrade without needing to touch their accounts. Just a quick reboot of their router will see the update enabled.
It's clearly good news from Virgin but not everyone will see the changes next week.
The company has confirmed that only those with M500 or Gig1 broadband packages will be treated to the changes.
If you have those plans here's how it will affect you.
Virgin Media M500 - NOW 36Mbps - FROM NEXT WEEK 52Mbps
Virgin Media Gig 1 - NOW 52Mbps - FROM NEXT WEEK 104Mbps
Speaking about the update, Gareth Turpin, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “As demand for fast and reliable connectivity continues to soar, we’re boosting upload speeds for millions of our broadband customers at no extra cost. In the last year, we’ve seen record upstream demand on our fixed network as a result of more people regularly working from home, using video calling apps and new advances in gaming, so now more than ever we’re laser focused on offering our customers a service that supports them now and in the future.”
This free-of-charge boost comes just months after Virgin Media also increased speeds for all M100 and M200 customers as well.
