A recent announcement by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has revealed that millions of Miniverse toy sets manufactured by MGA Entertainment are being recalled due to potential safety hazards. The sets, specifically the 'Make it Mini' series, have been found to contain resins that can cause skin burns, eye irritation, and respiratory issues if touched, inhaled, or ingested.
The CPSC highlighted that the liquid resins in the toys contain chemical compounds known as 'acrylates' in amounts that exceed the limits set for children's products. However, once the resins solidify, the risk of harm diminishes.
Reports of incidents involving the toy sets have been received, including cases of skin burns, irritation, and respiratory problems. One user even experienced an asthma attack after coming into contact with the toy.
The recall affects various sets under the 'Make it Mini' line, such as 'Make It Mini Appliances,' 'Make It Mini Food,' and 'Make It Mini Lifestyle.' These sets typically come in spherical packaging and may resemble food items like peanut butter jars or milk containers.
Consumers who purchased these recalled products, which were available at popular retailers like Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com, are advised to stop using any units with unused resins immediately. They can contact MGA Entertainment for a refund or a replacement product.
The recall extends to over 1 million sets sold in Canada as well. The affected products were on the market from October 2022 to June 2024, with prices ranging from $7 to $52 depending on the set.
For those who have purchased the Miniverse toy sets, ensuring safety and compliance with the recall is crucial to prevent any potential harm to children and adults alike.
