UBON RATCHATHANI: Two men were arrested after almost 6 million methamphetamine pills were found on the back of their pickup truck in this northeastern border province on Thursday night.

The truck was stopped and searched by a combined police-military team on Chokchai road in Khemmarat district.

They found 14 sacks under a canvas sheet covering the back of the vehicle. They held a total of 5.93 million meth pills.

Under questioning, driver Kittisak Artsri and his passenger Peerapong Nontasingh said they were approached by a Lao national to deliver the drugs to Nakhon Ratchasima province. They were to be paid 400,000 baht.

According to police, Kittisak had previously been arrested and prosecuted on drug-related charges. He was released three years ago after spending nine years in prison.

The two suspects were charged with possession of illicit drugs. They were taken to Khemmarat police station for legal proceedings.
