Millions of Brits changing the way they go on holiday due to financial constraints

The cost of living crisis has not only hit household bills, changed the public’s shopping habits and made most of us tighten the purse strings, but has also made people reassess their holiday plans.

Rather than knock the thought of summer trip on the head, people are working out ways to still get away but on a reduced budget. It is thought that the average Brit will have £300 per person less to spend on breaks next year.

In a survey carried out by loveholidays, who got the thoughts of 2,000 holidaymakers, nearly half (46 per cent) said they will think about going away for a shorter time, while a quarter of those asked (23 per cent) plan to swap where they normally go for a cheaper alternative. And 40 per cent said they will opt out of going all-inclusive in order to save money.

The research also found that, despite tighter budgets, six in 10 (59 per cent) are determined to be adventurous with their travel plans, while nearly three in 10 (28 per cent) do not want to compromise on experiencing new cultures. The survey found the average Brit still plans to travel abroad at least twice in the next 12 months – with those aged 18-34 planning the most breaks with three overseas getaways.

Al Murray, chief marketing officer at loveholidays, said: “The rising cost of living has understandably put even more focus on getting the best value for money when it comes to holidays. But while we’re comfortable making compromises, we’re still a nation who love our trips abroad, with many doing whatever they can to avoid giving up on holidays.

“From the way we book or what we book, to how we spend our time and money once we’re away, Brits are looking for simple changes to make their money go further while still ensuring they get away.”

Finally, at the booking stage of their holiday, a third (33 per cent) will now try to do more research to land a cheap deal and 21 per cent will opt for late night flights to keep prices low. And how many of us have done that in the past, arrive back in Blighty way past midnight in order to save a few quid?

To help holidaymakers get the best value for money when booking their next trip abroad, loveholidays has compiled a list of insider tips and tricks here: https://www.loveholidays.com/holidays/cost-of-living.html.
