Miller details secondary Rangers 'need' from Colak and Morelos

ANTONIO COLAK and Alfredo Morelos are in the Rangers squad for one main reason; to score goals.

But Kenny Miller insists it's just as important the duo perform at the top level to push each other on at Ibrox.

Rangers reached the Europa League final last season and achieved a Scottish Cup triumph while without a fully-fit first-choice striker through injury worries.

Kemar Roofe was on the bench for both finals after returning from injury while Morelos missed out after thigh surgery.

This season, Miller has urged Colak and Morelos to compete for the starting striker spot and ensure Rangers are well equipped no matter who starts up top.

In his BBC column, Miller wrote: "What Rangers need is Alfredo Morelos and Colak competing with each other, pushing each other on.

"Last season, Rangers were going into big cup finals and semi-finals where they did not have a recognised striker.

"It's important that these two lads are at the top of their game and competing for that slot."

Colak was denied a competitive debut strike for Rangers with a header against Livingston ruled out for offside but he opened his account against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

And Miller reckons the striker's all round game was more impressive as he insisted the understanding between Colak and his new team-mates will only improve with time.

He added: "There's been a lot of talk about Antonio Colak not having too much involvement.

"It's always a weight off your shoulders when you get your opening goal for a new club as a striker. Saturday's performance from Colak was better.

"He was more involved in Saturday's game than he was in the previous two and that's important for him. You need to feel involved. He rounded it off with a good goal.

"Your team-mates need to know where your strengths lie as well. These connections will get stronger as games pass.
