BSF jawan dies in Pakistan firing in Jammu, militant killed in Shopian

A Border Security Force personnel was killed after sustaining injuries in a ceasefire violation by the Pakistani troops along the International Border (IB) in Jammu’s Samba on November 9. Meanwhile, a militant was killed in an anti-militancy operation in south Kashmir’s Shopian.

Officials said the Pakistan Rangers resorted to “unprovoked firing” along the border around 12:20 a.m.

“Pakistan Rangers started firing at the Narayanpur post in Ramgarh, Samba. The BSF also retaliated and the firing between the two sides continued for some time,” officials said.

A BSF spokesman said the Pakistani firing was befittingly responded to by the jawans.

Head Constable Lal Farnn Kima was injured in the firing and was “immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre Hospital at Ramgarh”.

“After initial treatment, the injured soldier was referred to Government Medical College hospital, Jammu, for advanced treatment,” officials said. The injured BSF jawan later succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

This is the third ceasefire violation along the IB in Jammu since October 17 this year. Four BSF jawans and two civilians were injured in these violations earlier.

India and Pakistan renewed their pledge to abide by the 2003 ceasefire pact in February 2021. The agreement was holding by and large in the last two years.

In south Kashmir’s Shopian, a militant was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Kathohalan area.

“One terrorist affiliated with proscribed terror outfit TRF(has been) neutralised. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition recovered,” the police said.

The slain militant was identified as Maysar Ahmad Dar, a fresh recruit from Veshro in Shopian.
