Drive-Away Dolls features an all-star cast including Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Colman Domingo, Pedro Pascal and, in a wild cameo, Miley Cyrus.
Spoiler alert: The singer, 31, appears amid the trippiest sequences in the Ethan Coen-directed thriller-comedy.
In an interview with The Wrap, Coen and co-writer Tricia Cooke detailed why Cyrus was cast as raunchy hippie Tiffany Plaster Caster, a character based on a real-life creator of celebrity penis plaster casts.
Coen and Cooke shared that Cyrus was enthusiastic about the role, drawing inspiration from the real-life figure Cynthia Plaster Caster. Cynthia Albritton, known as Cynthia Plaster Caster, passed away in 2022 at the age of 74. Albritton was renowned for creating plaster casts of famous figures' body parts, including Jimi Hendrix, MC5's Wayne Kramer, and Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks.
During filming, Cyrus embraced the character's psychedelic nature and was described as being game for any scene. Cooke and Coen praised Cyrus for her professionalism and willingness to explore the character's eccentricities.
Drive-Away Dolls follows the journey of two lesbian friends portrayed by Qualley and Viswanathan as they travel to Florida with a unique cargo, including dildos made from Tiffany's plaster casts. The film is described as a queer caper that combines humor, adventure, and a touch of outrageousness.
Cyrus' cameo in the film surprised and delighted her co-stars, who expressed their excitement at her involvement. The cast members were impressed by Cyrus' performance and her ability to embody the quirky character of Tiffany Plaster Caster.
Drive-Away Dolls is currently showing in theaters, offering audiences a blend of comedy, adventure, and unexpected twists. The film's star-studded cast and Cyrus' memorable cameo have generated buzz and intrigue among viewers.
