Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters rushed to the maisonette in Southern Grove at roughly 11.26am on Tuesday following reports that the first-floor of the four-storey block had been damaged by fire.

A man and woman were treated for smoke inhalation. The man was then rushed to hospital where he remains.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called today (13 September) at 11:32 to reports of a fire on Southern Grove, Hackney.
