Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher praised by Ukrainian president Zelensky in video call

Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky has held a personal video call with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher to praise the Hollywood couple's fundraising efforts to help Ukrainian refugees.

The president shared a snap of the trio all talking on a video conference on Sunday and Ashton, 44, retweeted the message.

The caption from the president's official account read: "@aplusk & Mila Kunis were among the first to respond to our grief. They have already raised $35 million & are sending it to @flexport & @Airbnb to help [Ukrainian flag] refugees.

"Grateful for their support. Impressed by their determination. They inspire the world. #StandWithUkraine."

Mila, 38, was born in Chernitvtsi in Ukraine and also retweeted the post.

Zelensky had also labelled Ashton and Mila a "star couple" and thanked them for their support in believing in the country's future.

In a statement on Monday he said: "They help IDPs [internally displaced refugees] by raising funds. And the two of them have already raised [close to] $35 million."

"I thanked them on behalf of our people, on behalf of all of us. This is a good result for one couple of our friends in America."

Mila and Ashton, who acted together on That 70s Show, revealed on Thursday how their fundraiser had reached a staggering $30 million and is currently only thousands off $35 million.

The couple pledged $3 million of their own money for the "Stand With Ukraine" fund which was created just over two weeks ago.

According to the United Nations, more than two million people have fled Ukraine, with the majority fleeing to Poland.

In a recent update video, Mila said: "Over 65,000 of you donated. We are overwhelmed with gratitude of the support and while this is far from the solve of the problem, our collective effort will provide a softer landing to so many people as they forge ahead into their future of uncertainty."

Ashton added: "Our work is not done. We're going to do everything we can to ensure that the outpouring of love that came from you all as a part of this campaign finds a maximum impact with those in need.'

"As funding continues to come in, we're going to treat every dollar as if it's being donated out of our pocket, with respect and honour for the work that went into earning it, with the intent of love through which it was given and the desire for it to be maximised for positive outcome for others."
