Mikey Devlin fights for Hibs contract after Fleetwood exit as Lee Johnson offers training chance

Former Aberdeen defender Mikey Devlin has been spotted training with Hibs today after leaving Fleetwood Town earlier this week.

The 29-year-old was put through his paces at the Hibernian Training Centre as manager Lee Johnson and his assistant Jamie McAllister looked on ahead of their game away to St Mirren on Saturday afternoon. Devlin departed Scott Brown's Fleetwood Town on transfer deadline day after joining the League One side on a short term deal in the summer.

During his spell at Highbury he made just four appearances with his debut coming in the Papa Johns Trophy against Barrow AFC. He then went on to make his league debut against Barnsley in October. Devlin, who has been capped by Scotland three times, will be looking to impress Johnson on the training pitch and hopefully earn a contract in the capital. Given he is a free agent he can sign for the Easter Road outfit outside the transfer window.

Before signing for Fleetwood Devlin had been without a club after being released by Aberdeen after making just over 50 appearances in four years for the Dons. His time in the Granite City was plagued by injury and Johnson will be aware of his injury past before making a decision on whether to sign him or not.

Devlin wasn't the only new face at Hibs training today. New signing Matthew Hoppe, who joined on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season, was spotted meeting his new team mates in Edinburgh.

Johnson addressed the Devlin situation in his press conference ahead of the St Mirren clash saying he could be an option for the Hibees.

He added: "It's no secret that we're looking for potentially one more. It could be Michael Devlin. He's in the building at the moment. I know he's had his recent injury history but all reports we've had in terms of his last club have been positive. It's an opportunity for us to have a look at him and him to have a look at us for three or four days."
