Mikel Arteta uncovers secret top-four weapon to give Arsenal new edge over Spurs and Man United

Have you recovered yet? I'm not sure I have!

What a night it was at the Emirates. Another match of doing things the hard way, otherwise known as... The Arsenal Way.

For large parts of the game, you got the sense that it just wasn't going to be our night. A costly defensive error early on, lack of clear-cut chances and a well-structured Wolves backline made things difficult.

We needed inspiration from somewhere, especially with Emile Smith Rowe out through illness. It was clear to see that a spark was missing and an injection of energy was required.

With only three shots out of the 26 being on target, Mikel Arteta had seen enough and decided to bring on Nicolas Pepe and Eddie Nketiah after 70 minutes.

The two players have struggled for regular minutes this season, scoring just 8 goals combined in all competitions. However, the impact they both made after being introduced last night highlighted the key role they can play in Arsenal's push for Champions League football.

Despite having the responsibility to change the game for the better whilst one-nil down, Pepe and Nketiah embraced the challenge and ultimately helped get the job done.

Nketiah has come under criticism for his lack of contribution in the Premier League, but he looked like a different player last night. Making dangerous runs, linking up nicely with his teammates and providing the assist for Pepe's equaliser, the young striker didn't look like someone who was keen on leaving at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Pepe also looked like someone with a sense of rejuvenated energy. The Ivorian instantly looked to make things happen in the opposition's half and proved to be a handful for Wolves' defence.

It took just 11 minutes for the winger to find the back of the net, calmly collecting the ball and turning before beating Jose Sa under pressure. Just a few moments later, he also made the all-important pass into Lacazette whose effort won the game.

Whilst Arteta has the likes of Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Smith Rowe as his main starters, yesterday's sweet win against the celebration police has proven that the Spaniard has more options which can make a difference when called upon during vital moments.

It's a luxury that other teams around Arsenal such as West Ham, Wolves, Spurs and Manchester United don't quite have, potentially proving vital in their chase for the top-four.

Every fixture between now and the end of the season is crucial for Arsenal, but Arteta's super-sub success could provide him with the formula to secure his side's dream prize.
