Mikel Arteta told which Arsenal attacker to drop for Liverpool clash amid Bukayo Saka decision

Mikel Arteta will likely have to name one of his five in-form Arsenal attackers on the bench for their Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday. Bukayo Saka dropped out of last weekend's starting XI that beat Leeds 4-1 after suffering with illness in the build up to the game, but Arteta revealed on Friday the winger is available.

Gabriel Jesus was a surprise starter against the Whites having played just 83 minutes after returning from a long-term knee injury. The Brazilian was ultimately subbed off on the hour mark though, but that was after he had netted a superb brace.

With Jesus making a statement, and Arsenal's four other attackers enjoying spells of form, Arteta faces a major team selection decision this weekend. "It depends on their moment, it depends on what we want to do and the qualities that we’re seeking, and the relationships that there is," Arteta explained on the competition for places at the top end of the pitch.

"When you have five changes you have the ability to change the game. It’s much better to have this problem because at the moment they’re really good."

If Jesus was to retain his place in the starting XI, Leandro Trossard would likely be the player to lose his spot in the team. However, Arteta's comments on the Belgian's hat-trick with Brighton at Anfield earlier this season could hint otherwise.

"It’s great to have a player who has experienced something really nice and positive at that stadium," Arteta said about Trossard. "He was a crucial player that day and it was a beautiful game to watch. That’s what we need, a lot of players on the pitch with belief that we can go there and win."

Nonetheless, former Premier League midfielder Fabrice Muamba expects that, despite his starring performance in Merseyside six months ago, Trossard will be the forward named on the bench.

“Do I see Arsenal changing the team? Yes, Saka in and changed for Trossard," Muamba said when speaking to his YouTube channel. "Again, Trossard may feel hard done by thinking he’s done really well, but I can see why.

"This is the benefit of having a good manager and a very good squad you can swap like for like and quality for quality. That’s something Liverpool don’t have at the moment,”
