Arsenal have been told what they need to do if they want to complete the signing of Ruben Neves from Wolves and solve their midfield issues.
According to the Sun, Wolves are confident they can keep hold of Neves if they are able to qualify for Europe, and can only see him leaving if an extraordinary transfer offer arrives for him.
The Gunners are in desperate need of a midfielder due to the shortages in that position, which also coincides with a lack of quality.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Neves, and if Mikel Arteta’s side can qualify for the Champions League next season they will be within a great chance of signing the midfielder.
Neves would be the perfect solution to Arsenal’s problems, as he is a composed midfielder who handles the basics excellently, and aside from an occasional marvelous free-kick, he is usually not the type of player to feature on a headline.
He has plenty of Premier League experience and has shown that he is capable of competing with the best clubs in the land, and would certainly improve the Arsenal midfield.
At the end of the season, the midfielder’s contract will only have two years remaining, and Wolves will have to decide whether to sell him to prevent losing him for a cut-price in the following year, due to his expiring contract.
The 24-year-old is a part of a Wolves team that have been solid defensively this season, which Neves has played a big part in, and he would prove to be an excellent partner alongside Thomas Partey.
Granit Xhaka is usually the starting player alongside Partey, but the Swiss international cannot be relied upon due to his suspension and injury issues, it is also no guarantee that he will still be at the club for too long, as AS Roma have reportedly reignited interest in the midfielder.
Albert Sambi Lokonga will certainly be a future regular in the midfield for Arsenal, but he still needs time to adapt to the pace of the Premier League, whilst Mohammed Elneny’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
The Gunners currently sit two places and two points ahead of Wolves in the Premier League table, and this must be maintained if they want to secure a deal for the Portuguese international.
On the contrary, Edu could offer a large fee for the midfielder and hope that he would be persuaded to join the club, but either way, if Arsenal do manage to accelerate a deal for the Neves, it would certainly be a statement signing, as he would create an excellent midfield pairing alongside Partey.
