Mikel Arteta speaks out on Mykhaylo Mudryk Arsenal transfer links as Edu lodges official bid

Mikel Arteta has had his say on the transfer rumours linking Mykhaylo Mudryk with a move to Arsenal.

football.london understands the Gunners have submitted an official bid for the Shakhtar Donetsk winger. The Ukrainian has been linked with a move to north London for some time and it was reported on Boxing Day that Arsenal have now moved to make him their first signing of the January transfer window.

Shakhtar are expected to reject the offer, however, and intend to hold out for move. It is not known exactly how much Arsenal have bid.

Mudryk is thought to be pushing for the move from his side and this was seen after what he did during Arsenal's 3-1 win over West Ham. In an video posted on his Instagram story, Mudryk is watching Arteta's side play the Hammers in the first Premier League match back at the Emirates Stadium. The game is on his iPad and was filmed in time to see Eddie Nketiah's goal to make it 3-1 with the recording taken just before the striker slotted past Lukas Fabianski.

After the win, which sees Arsenal go seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, Arteta was asked about the Gunners' bid for Mudryk. The Spaniard said: "You know that I never speak about players who are not with us. I understand that you have to ask me the question.

"We said that we will try and find ways to strengthen the team [if] we find the right players and that’s what I can say."

Asked about Mudryk's social media post showing he was watching the game, Arteta added: "The good thing in England is that you don’t have many other matches in other countries at Christmas so hopefully a lot of people watched our game and we gave them a good show."
