Mikel Arteta's £34m 'sensational' Arsenal transfer vindicated with Kevin De Bruyne claim

Martin Odegaard's performances for Arsenal in the 2022/23 campaign have played a major role in the Gunners' remarkable turnaround from last season’s Champions League heartbreak. The former Real Madrid man is at the centre of most things that Mikel Arteta's side do after taking on a number of responsibilities in north London.

The 24-year-old has made 24 appearances in all competitions this campaign, contributing to 14 goals. His form over the last three months have earned him plenty of praise with five goals and four assists in the previous eight Premier League games.

For the second week running, Odegaard put in another impressive display in a huge fixture for the Gunners. After scoring a brilliant goal against north London rivals Tottenham the week prior, the Norwegian played the advanced playmaker role perfectly in the 3-2 win over Manchester United.

With only half the season completed, there remains plenty of time for proceedings to change at the top of the Premier League. However, despite still being 24, Odegaard has demonstrated his leadership with a calming message to his teammates.

"We have a young group. We are probably the youngest team in the league but I still feel like we have a lot of experience," he told The Arsenal Vision Podcast. "I feel like we have players who have been through a lot, myself [included] even though I'm young. I feel like the experience may be more important than the age.

"I think we enjoy this pressure. To feel that people believe in us. To feel that people take us seriously is a good thing. We are where we want to be. We want to fight to win things and to be at the top, that is where this club should be.

"We're in a good position at the moment but we have to stay calm, to stay humble and keep working hard. There is still so many things we can improve. You can always get better so I'm excited to finish the season."

After continuing to impress in Arsenal's midfield trio, Odegaard has received glowing praise from former Premier League defender Jamie Carragher. The Sky Sports pundit spoke highly of the Gunners skipper on Monday Night Football and compared him to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

"I think Odegaard at Arsenal has been absolutely sensational," Carragher said. "If Arsenal won the title, I think Odegaard's role has been sensational. I think he is the closest thing to Kevin De Bruyne."
