Arsenal have been on the hunt for a new striker since the opening of the summer transfer window. And it seems that Gabriel Jesus is the Gunners' main target.
The Times have reported that the Gunners have made an improved offer to Man City for Jesus and in spite of this new offer not meeting the £50m valuation, it is expected that the eight-time Premier League goalscorer for 2021/22 will move to the Emirates.
Despite the interest in Jesus, Arsenal have also been linked to strikers with a completely different profile to the Brazilian. The Arsenal Way Writer/Pesenter Tom Canton and Reach PLC Football Scouting Writer Josh Williams discussed the risks of identifying a different profile of strikers in the transfer window on The Arsenal Way’s Analysing Arsenal show.

Josh questioned the plan of Arsenal’s summer transfer window if Gianluca Scammacca was signed as an alternative to Jesus.
“If Arsenal go and get a player like Scammacca or Calvert-Lewin in comparison to Jesus who are very different types of players. I’d be curious as to what Arsenal’s plan is in the transfer window.”
Josh then continued to compare the different types of striker profiles to Manchester United’s full-back search under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which ultimately failed to succeed for the Red Devils.
“A few seasons ago, Manchester United were after a right-back, and their number one target was Aaron Wan-Bissaka with their second target reported to be Max Aarons from Norwich. They were extremely different types of players.”
“So, in terms of how the systems are going to operate, what is the plan if you have identified two different types of right-backs? And in terms of Arsenal currently, they seemed to be following a similar pattern, by looking across the board at any striker who had shown potential in the past year," he added.
“I’d be concerned that Arsenal are going to force their striker search. If the right man is not available, even though Arsenal need a striker they must play their cards correctly so they are not forcing a signing for a player you are not convinced about."
