Mikel Arteta reveals three-month plan amid Arsenal captaincy admission

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed he has been working closely with Martin Odegaard in training.

Odegaard joined the Gunners on a short term loan back in January 2020 before sealing a permanent transfer from Real Madrid over the summer. The talented playmaker has enjoyed a successful first full season at the Emirates Stadium, netting six Premier League goals and providing a further three assists.

Now, Arteta has spoken about the 23-year-old's training programme, claiming that fans will start seeing a huge difference in his play over the next three to six months. Speaking to Norwegian outlet TV2, the Spaniard said: "What we are working on now, you will see in three months or six months.

"What Martin is doing now, you do not see on the field now. We see it in three months, six months or a year.

"Right now you may see the results of some of what he has been working on for the last six months. People said that he was unstable, that he could not do this and that, but then he filled out the form to be ready now."

Odegaard captained Arsenal at St. Mary's Stadium on Saturday when they recorded a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Southampton and Arteta has admitted that the youngster has all the qualities to wear the armband for the north Londoners. When quizzed about the Norwegian's leadership attributes, Arteta said: "He certainly has all the qualities to do that, absolutely.

"Talking to his national team coach and how highly they speak of him. He walks through the corridor and everybody loves him.

"He is such a nice, humble guy and he leads with the way he is. It is very natural for him and that will come."
