Mikel Arteta reveals Arsene Wenger advice that is helping Arsenal's Premier League title charge

Manager Mikel Arteta has revealed he is using Arsene Wenger's past advice to help Arsenal's Premier League title charge this season. The Gunners are sat four points clear at the top of the table and could extend their advantage to seven points with a win against Southampton tonight.

Arteta has been hit with a number of injury concerns heading into the title run-in with William Saliba still sidelined with a back injury. The French defender has been absent since Arsenal were dumped out of the Europa League at the hands of Sporting CP last month.

Oleksandr Zinchenko missed the 2-2 draw against West Ham last weekend after being left out of the squad as a 'precaution' and may be available to face the Saints this evening. City will have two games in hand on the Gunners heading into their title showdown at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening with both teams desperate to pick up the three points.

Arsenal still have their own Premier League title destiny in their own hands and can keep the pressure on City with a victory against Ruben Selles' side at the Emirates Stadium tonight. Ahead of the fixture, Arteta has revealed the piece of advice Gunners legendary manager Arsene Wenger told him that is helping fuel their current title charge.

Wenger discussed his former side's title race and earlier this week said: "When you start thinking about the need to win rather than the process of how to play. That's when things get difficult."

Arteta admitted that Wenger used to tell him that when he was playing for Arsenal and revealed he continues to tell the current squad the same thing. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Spaniard said: "He used to say that all the time to us and it's very, very true.

"We always say it. Look after the next ball and what is in the process.

"Play the game well to deserve to win it and the result is an outcome of what we have to do - most of the time! Unfortunately, not always in football but most of the time. When you are focused on that, the rest usually comes in the right way."
