Mikel Arteta must use Arsene Wenger example to solve Liverpool problem amid Arsenal legend claim

Arsenal have not won against Liverpool at Anfield in their last 12 attempts, barring a Carabao Cup win on penalties following a 0-0 draw back in 2020. The Gunners had not won in their last five meetings in all competitions before their 3-2 win at the Emirates Stadium against the Reds this season.

Anfield has proved to be a difficult place to go in the past for any team, not just Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger has already shown Arteta how to get the better of Liverpool at their home ground. Jurgen Klopp's side have not been at their best so far this season but things could change when the Premier League resumes on Boxing Day.

Liverpool have been Manchester City's main competition for the title over the past five years, but they have been replaced by the Gunners this term. Arteta knows he must learn to pick up big away wins if Arsenal are to ever win the title again and that could start this term when the Gunners travel to Anfield in April.

Speaking to Jamie Carragher in an interview on Sky Sports, the Arsenal boss has highlighted one challenge he must overcome and revealed who the toughest team and player he has faced is. When asked who his toughest opponent has been, Arteta responded: "Liverpool, at Anfield."

The north London outfit take on the Reds at the back end of the season in a match which could prove to be crucial in the Gunners title race with City. There is still a lot of football to be played and Arsenal may fall away from the top of the table or be clear of City, but a clash against Liverpool is always a huge fixture.

Carragher continued by asking Arteta which individual player he found the toughest to play against and the Arsenal boss' answer is one that fans will love. The Spaniard responded: "It would have to be Thierry Henry.

"He was one of those players where you felt he was so superior to anyone else. He could completely dominate the game."

Arteta will hope he can add players and develop those already in his squad to a similar level where individuals can dominate games and pop up with the deciding moments to help bring success back to the Emirates Stadium.
