Mikel Arteta issues transfer window update after Reiss Nelson injury amid Mykhaylo Mudryk talks

Arsenal face a nervous wait over Reiss Nelson’s latest injury blow but Mikel Arteta is adamant the winger’s absence will not affect his January transfer plans.

The window opens in a fortnight’s time with talks underway to sign Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, who is valued at £86million by his club.

Nelson was taken off midway through the first half of Saturday’s friendly defeat to Juventus with an apparent hamstring issue.

Speaking after the game, Arsenal boss Arteta was unable to confirm how long the 23-year-old might be out for but insisted he will not be forced into rushing his January plans in spite of the blow.

“We don’t know the extent of the injury,” he told reporters.

“The fact he had to leave the pitch immediately is not good news, especially someone like Reiss, who is really powerful and fast.

“Let’s see what happens. We know what we have to do and that hasn’t changed the plans.”
