Mikel Arteta was typically dismissive when asked in his pre-match press conference about Arsenal's interest in Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Spaniard was asked for an update on the transfer window and shortly replied that there was no update.
When asked about Arsenal's interest in Mykhaylo Mudryk he simply shook his head. The club have reportedly been in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over a move for some time. However, the pair have been unable to reach an agreement over a fee for the player despite the Gunners having two bids rejected.
The Ukrainian side are asking for a fee in the region of €100million (£88.2million) but the Gunners are reluctant to make the winger their record-signing football.london understands. Shakhtar have publicly referenced Antony and Jack Grealish as examples of players they deem similar in quality to their starlet to justify the price.

During the press conference, football.london asked Arteta if the big spending by clubs on individual players had made it harder to agree a fee for players at the value the club feels they're worth. Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all spent massively on individual talent and, to some, have overpaid for numerous options.
“I don’t know. Obviously, valuation have to be made between the selling club and the buying club," said Arteta.
“It is difficult but as well, it shows a lot of clubs with a lot of financial power to spend big amounts and we have to compete with them.
“We have to be smart, we have to see for good opportunities as well. We have to be attractive for players."
However, what was very interesting about what Arteta added was regarding player preference. He added: “At the end players decide where they want to play, and if they want to play for our club, this is great."
It has become very clear that Mudryk wants to move to Arsenal from his antics on social media. From his personal Instagram account, Mudryk has liked several posts by supporters asking him to join the club and most recently liked a post with the tag line "Mudryk doesn't want Chelsea."
If Arteta does indeed believe that the player's desire comes above all else it is a massive sign that Mudryk's dream switch to the Gunners will eventually be fulfilled. The hope is now that the two clubs can come to an agreement on the price.
