Arsenal have been given a major boost in their pursuit of a transfer reunion of Serge Gnabry. This comes after a key competitor for the German’s signature reportedly pulled out of the race.
German news outlet BILD claimed last week that Real Madrid are also exploring the opportunity of signing Gnabry this summer after Mbappe decided to stay at PSG. But Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio recently denied Real Madrid’s interest as the club have no intentions of signing a winger as they are focused on securing Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco.
This is a major boost for Arsenal as it eliminates a tough competitor for Gnabry’s signature. The club will be in need of a winger in the summer, and the German would certainly be the perfect acquisition.

The German would be an excellent acquisition at the end of the season, as his versatility could prove key for Mikel Arteta. There is certainly unfinished business for Gnabry, which was proved when he dropped a potential transfer hint by saying he is "Always a Gunner". According to CIES football observatory, he will cost around the £60million mark, which is a deal that could certainly be worth the cost.
Earlier in the season German outlet Bild had claimed that Gnabry and his representatives are demanding £12.5million-per-year in wages to sign a new contract. But Bayern are yet to agree to these terms, which has put talks currently on hold.
This was followed by German news outlet Sport1's claim that Gnabry’s desire to leave Bayern is not only about the money. The player wants to feel like he has an important role in the team, and wishes to play in a more central position rather than on the wing.
The Gunners could also wait until next season, and attempt to sign him on a free transfer. This would certainly go down as one of the best coups on a free deal due to the quality of the winger. However, it would be risky for the Gunners to wait for this opportunity, as other clubs would also likely register interest in the winger.
The German winger still has a lot of admiration for Arsenal, which was proven with a tweet claiming that London is Arsenal’s after Gnabry’s Bayern Munich side dismantled Tottenham in the Champions 7-2 in 2019. He has also been pictured in Arsenal shirts on multiple occasions in recent times, which also highlights his love for the club.
Gnabry left the Gunners in 2016 to join Werder Bremen after he failed to agree a new contract when Arsene Wenger was manager of the club. Since his move away from the Premier League, he has become a Champions League winner and a multiple German league champion with Bayern Munich.
It would certainly be a statement signing by Arsenal if they were able to sign Gnabry. The Gunners take some extra confidence in securing his signature after Real Madrid have seemingly pulled out of the race.
