Mikel Arteta gives Leandro Trossard update as Arsenal win marred by fresh injury blow

Mikel Arteta admits the injury picked up by Leandro Trossard is a "worry" after the player admitted he couldn't continue.

The Belgian was forced off within the opening half hour as the Gunners' injury problems mount. The former Brighton man, who moved to the Emirates from Brighton in January, has begun to occupy a false nine role as Arteta looks for ways to make do without the injured Gabriel Jesus.

Trossard has performed impressively in his new role and his injury will leave his boss looking for fresh solutions in the final third. Arsenal will need to assess the 28-year-old with the games still coming thick and fast as they battle domestically as well as in Europe.

Arteta said of Trossard's injury: "It is a worry, he came to me straight away and said he couldn't continue, he'd felt something when he was tracking back, so we had to take him off. We'll assess him and see how he is."

Eddie Nketiah - who is also battling a knock - has been used in Jesus' absence and, after Trossard's withdrawal, Martinelli went into a more central role with Emile Smith Rowe drifting out to the left. Arsenal's thin squad has been cited as a concern, but they've largely been able to avoid injuries to big players.

The blow to Trossard comes at an untimely period, with the north Londoners set to resume European commitments this week, playing Sporting Lisbon home and away over the next fortnight. Despite the Belgian being forced off, the Gunners were still able to fight back from two goals down against Bournemouth.

The Cherries, who scored within 10 seconds, threatened to record a monumental victory when they took a 2-0 lead on the hour mark. Arsenal rallied and eventually found their winner in the 97th minute courtesy of Reiss Nelson's thunderous strike to ignite the home crowd.

Arteta said: "I'm incredibly happy. It was just mad. Those feelings of happiness and joy. It was a really special way and it took until the last second to earn it. I am really proud of them [the players]. They never gave up. There is nothing like sharing those great moments with your people.

"I'm so happy for him [Reiss Nelson]. It's just another game, another three points. To win three games in a week [ Leicester, Everton, Bournemouth] is very important. We want to stay there [at the top] for as long as possible. There are still a lot of games to play but that’s the beauty of it."
