Mikel Arteta given key Kroenke blessing ahead of Arsenal's £100m January transfer spending spree

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta appears to have been given a blessing from the Kronkes that could see him spend big in the upcoming January transfer window. The Spaniard is facing a huge month ahead, where decisions in the market could make or break their ambitions this season.

The Gunners were able to quickly put behind the disappointment of last season, where they missed out on a top four finish and a return to the Champions League, by signing a number of key players to improve the squad. It resulted in a quick start, but it seems that is unlikely to fade at this moment in time.

The side now sit top of the Premier League, several points clear of second-place Manchester City in what is turning out to be a battle for the title. The two key disadvantages Arteta has in comparison to Pep Guardiola is experience of winning titles and quality in depth in the squad.

The latter of the two can be addressed immediately in the upcoming January transfer window, with the Spaniard claiming they will be "active". This has already been the case as football.london understands Arsenal tabled an opening offer of £55million for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Ukrainian outfit currently value him at close to £100million, resulting in a their bid being rejected, but it seems likely that a second offer will soon follow. A whole host of other players are linked too, with the likes of Joao Felix, Youri Tielemans and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to name just a few.

It could result in a spending spree of over £100million in total, but it appears as though Arteta has blessings from the ownership to invest. That's according to David Ornstein, who told NBC: "Arsenal will know they need to kick on in the transfer market if they want to make that final push for the Premier League title. The Kroenkes are backing them to go and get that title - so let’s see what they do in the market."
